When it comes to working from home there are a few ways to ensure maximum productivity and one of them is an organized office! The less clutter you have around you and the more efficient your system of organization is the more you’ll be able to get done at home. Remember, if you don’t love it or need it then donate it or get rid of it! This is your space to feel like a boss and unnecessary papers and knick knacks getting in the way is not what you deserve. Make sure every paperclip, piece of mail, and pen has a designated home and you’ll be on your way to conquering your work day like the boss that you are!

Only Essentials Allowed

When it comes to your desktop it is sacred real estate! It’s easier said than done to have a completely clean desk, but the fight against endless paper and office supplies can be won with this simple trick! Only allow what you ABSOLUTELY need every day on your desk. Computer, notebook, pens, and maybe a plant is allowed, but keep it simple! The more space you have to work the more productive you’ll be. A good rule of thumb is if you don’t use it at least once a week then it belongs on a shelf!

Desk Accessories

Okay, so you’ve decided what your essentials are going to be. The next step is ensuring they have a home and look good too! Enter desk accessories, they’re here to make your life easier and your desk look amazing. Pick accessories as an accent to your room or match it completely, with a range of options you can get creative and find something that feels most like you! We love the boldness of this Codify pencil holder and the classic warm feel of a wooden magazine file.

Organize Your Drawers

Separate what you have in your drawers into categories and use organizers to keep everything tidy and front and center. Organize your drawers into categories that make sense to you and how you work! For example, the top drawer could be full of things you use the most, like pens and pencils, so it would make sense to have those things more easily accessible than ink cartridges which you only need to access every once in a while! Ink cartridges and printer paper could even be tucked away on a book shelf instead of clogging up your desk drawers since they don’t get used that much.

Shelving

Shelving is a sophisticated way to bring some life to the space. The openness gives a sense of your personality with an elevated feel. Don’t stop at books and knick knacks, use your shelves to their full potential by adding baskets, plants, file boxes, and even your printer to maximize desk space! By placing items you don’t use that often on your shelves you can keep the clutter away from your desk, resulting in more productivity! Check out some of our favorite shelves we think would look great in any space!

Install Cabinets

Kitchens aren’t the only place for cabinets! If you really want to step it up a notch, we suggest installing cabinets and built-ins in your home office. They not only make your space look a lot tidier by hiding all your supplies away, but can even add value to your home. They also give a space a more permanent and regal feel, fit for royalty!

Home Office by Honeycomb Home Design:

Photo: Schoolhouse

Our home was originally built in the 60s and had already been through a remodel in the 80s. It had good bones but they were hard to see under the later revisions. Ariana’s team went straight to the elements that needed to be preserved and highlighted them. The kitchen/dining room has been opened up amazingly and we’re very happy with it. In addition to the design efforts, we really value the 3-D renderings. It makes it much easier to talk with tradespeople about what we want to be done and how, and prevents miscommunications. Five stars for the Honeycomb team!
