The Best White Paint Colors by Sherwin Williams

Selecting the perfect white paint color can be quite a challenge! Before diving into our Sherwin Williams picks, be sure to check out our Best White Paint selections from Benjamin Moore.

We’ve gone through extensive trial and error to find the best white paint colors, and we’re excited to share our favorites. However, it’s important to keep a few things in mind about paint:

  1. Light Reflectance Value (LRV): The higher the LRV, the lighter the color.

  2. Lighting: Both natural and artificial light significantly affect how a color appears in your room. If natural lighting is limited, consider adding lamps.

  3. Color Choice: If a color doesn’t look good in a room, it’s often better to choose a new color rather than trying to lighten it with white.

A detailed post about paint is coming soon. For now, let’s dive into our top three white paint colors from Sherwin Williams and why they work so well.

Sherwin Williams Pure White

Pure White - SW 7005 (LRV - 84)

Pure White is ideal for the exterior of homes, especially if you’re aiming for a farmhouse or coastal look. We used this color on a beach house, and it worked beautifully.

Why it works:

  • Pure White is a great choice for exterior siding without being too bright or blue.

  • It's a little too bright for interior use but perfect for exterior applications.

Sherwin Williams Extra White

Extra White - SW 7006 (LRV - 86)

Extra White is a true white with a blue undertone, making it an excellent complement to Carrara tile or countertops. We used Extra White for the shiplap in one of our projects.

Why it works:

  • A true white with a blue undertone, perfect for pairing with Carrara marble or other blue tones.

  • It can look harsh on walls if paired with earthy materials, sometimes resembling primer.

Sherwin Williams Snowbound

Snowbound - SW 7004 (LRV - 83)

Snowbound is a versatile off-white that plays well with a variety of other colors. We used Snowbound for cabinetry in one of our projects, and it turned out great.

Why it works:

  • Snowbound works well with white quartz countertops and isn’t too creamy or blue.

  • It’s a favorite for cabinetry and millwork, complementing both warmer and cooler tones.
