The Best White Paint Colors by Benjamin Moore
If I had a nickel for every time we are asked, “What is the best white paint color?” I'd be rolling in the dough!
Choosing the perfect white paint color might seem simple, but it only takes one trip to the paint store to realize how many shades of white there are! As you compare different whites, you’ll notice that some have a blue tint, while others have a yellow tint.
Even as a design professional, selecting the right white paint can be overwhelming. After completing Maria Killam’s True Colour Expert Certification Course, I gained valuable insights into choosing the best white paint colors.
Here are a few of our top white paint picks—each with distinct undertones, whether blue or yellow. You might also observe that some whites are darker than others. This is measured by a color’s Light Reflectance Value (LRV), which ranges from 0 (black) to 100 (white). A higher LRV means a lighter color.
You may wonder why LRV matters. Knowing the LRV of a white paint color helps simplify your decision-making. For instance, a color with a low LRV is not ideal for a room with limited natural or artificial light.
Dark color (Low LRV) + Dark Room - Adequate Light = A Disappointing Room :(
While LRV is crucial, it doesn’t compensate for a dark room lacking proper lighting. This is a key consideration. I’ll delve into LRV in a more detailed post about paint.
For now, let’s focus on the best white paint colors! (And don’t forget to check out our favorite Sherwin Williams white paints here!)

Our Top Three White Paint Colors from Benjamin Moore:
Simply White
Chantilly Lace
Cloud White
1. Benjamin Moore "Simply White"
Simply White is a standout choice and one of our favorites! We’ve used it extensively for ceilings, millwork, cabinetry, and as a main wall color. The image below showcases its elegance on custom wainscot paneling.
Why it works: Simply White (OC-117, LRV 91.7) features a subtle warm undertone, making it versatile and well-suited for a range of design styles. However, it might not pair well with cooler finishes like Carrara marble, which is where our next selection shines.
2. Benjamin Moore "Chantilly Lace"
A favorite among designers, Chantilly Lace excels in cabinetry, ceilings, and millwork. In the kitchen remodel project featured, this color graces the cabinetry and ceilings, providing a crisp, clean look.
Why it works: Chantilly Lace (OC-65, LRV 92.2) is a true “control white,” ideal for comparing other whites due to its pure, balanced tone. It's a staple in luxury design for its versatility and elegance.
3. Benjamin Moore "White Dove"
White Dove is a classic choice for those seeking a warm white with a beige undertone. It creates a soft, inviting backdrop, as seen in the primary bath project featured below.
Why it works: White Dove (OC-17, LRV 85.38) strikes the perfect balance between warmth and subtlety, avoiding the extremes of too dark or too creamy. It's an excellent choice for rooms that benefit from natural light and a gentle, refined appearance.
